Mara asks...What protections are there for sensitive people? James responds...The mind is easily swayed and some people take advantage of this to claim power over you. The more obvious methods include lies, propaganda, sales techniques and charm. Less obvious and potentially more damaging are techniques of ‘psychic attack’. These are mostly hidden and intentionally harmful, in the sense that someone disregards our own needs in order to fulfil their own, even to the point of wishing us ill.
To defend against such disrespect, two methods are particularly useful – and there are others. Sufi Glance When someone is engaging us in conversation and holding eye contact, we are especially vulnerable to their influence. Some people thrust their ideas upon us by speaking at us with intensity in the eyes and a forceful manner. We may feel bullied and irritable. Others attempt to demand sympathy by drawing our own psychic energy into themselves through the eyes, which leaves us feeling drained and somewhat depressed. One technique that protects us from these intrusions is the Sufi Glance. Rather than looking directly into the eyes of the other, we focus attention on a point located some 2 cm in front of the bridge of their nose. The person cannot tell that we have made our glance diffuse. Simultaneously, we stop concentration upon their words and simply drift into our own space. We may need to practice the method a few times for it to be smoothly effective. Light Visualisation If the attacker is at a distance, another method can be applied. It is hardly ever needed when we are awake and there are better methods anyway. However when we are asleep we are vulnerable to intrusion from someone who intends to hurt or seduce us. The practice is a simple visualisation for 10 – 30 seconds as we lay down to sleep. Imagine yourself surrounded so that you are contained within a pyramid. See each on the sides of the pyramid become light, and let the light shine and radiate outwards. Do this each night you feel at risk.
