URANUS IN TAURUS

Uranus Retrograde in Aries and Uranus Transit into Taurus

Uranus Astrology
Planets in Retrograde
During its final retrograde period, it is a good time to consider what has been a planet's effect and, looking back at the headlines since 2011, we can see some very striking themes and quite dramatic Uranus-type events.
Uranus Astrology in Aries

Even on the very day of its ingress into Aries, on 11 March 2011, there was a massive earthquake in Japan that led to the greatest nuclear calamity the world has yet seen. Since then tornadoes, floods, hurricanes and wildfires have often dominated the headlines and caused a major official rethink about the reality, and the effects, of Climate Change. From a wacky idea to an accepted truth has taken but a few years.
Uranus in Aries
Uranus in Aries
Rebellion
Political rebellion was a major feature. There is always someone rising up somewhere, but this time the Arab Spring was noteworthy because it was pan-Arabian and era-defining. Some of the Arabic ways are seen as medieval (and Uranus hates anything outdated).

Another rebellious statement was made in Russia – Pussy Riot – and that resulted in the imprisonment of gentle singers. Russian also stamped down heavily in Ukraine when it looked as though their own uprising might diminish its influence there, an issue that still dangerously flares up from time to time; it is far from settled.
Yet possibly the most terrible example of rebelliousness was the shocking emergence of the Islamic State and its rapid ascendancy. It took Al Qaeda’s agenda to a whole new level, making enemies not only of the West but also of the moderate majority of Islam. However, it tried to punch above its weight when it took on Syria and therefore, with others, Russia. In Syria, Russia has found its role once again as a fearsome power, which it had lost in the 1980s.
Uranus Transit
Refugee Crisis
Except for the Indian partition in 1947, the migration of vast numbers of people escaping the war in Syria was the world’s biggest ever population disruption and has had an extraordinary impact on world affairs, quite probably including Brexit and the election of Trump, with xenophobia reawakening as racial violence and startling levels of Antisemitism.
“Me first!” is a rather Aries-type sentiment that Trump and Cameron both employed to gain political clout.
Never a rare event, shootings in the USA jumped to a whole new level since 2012 with the massacre of innocents, including children at school, and there have been unprecedented levels of police violence.
Most cities in the world are places of danger now, whether from terrorism, police violence or angry drunkenness amongst the youth. It is worse than at any time in living memory in its scale and widespread reach. And this extreme state of affairs has arisen very quickly indeed – there has always been rebellion and violence but the scale of it has accelerated very suddenly.
Police Brutality
Uranus Rebelion
China has stealthily claimed a strong place and now, for the first time, is able to be taken seriously as a longer term threat to American supremacy. Its technological focus is also a feature of Uranus. If reports are to be believed, there are plans to light the streets of Beijing with a man-made laser beam in space whose brightness is five times that of the Moon. They have also cloned monkeys. Elsewhere human microchip implants are no longer the fantasy of a sci fi writer. Their Belt and Road initiative is Taurus-like however; their time is coming now.

In summary, through technology and rebellion, Uranus has expressed itself very aggressively during its time in Aries, triggering violent crackdowns and making the world a much more dangerous place than a decade ago.
Uranus Astrology in Taurus

As it leaves Aries and enters Taurus we may hope that the calming effect of the fixed Earth sign may settle the world down – but it is doubtful. Uranus is fast and electrical; it is not inclined to take slow and steady Taurus as anything other than an obstacle to blow asunder.
Uranus in Taurus
We can expect more energy and attention channelled into money, trade and corporations rather than bullets perhaps – but sadly, in Taurus Uranus is almost certain to disrupt the status quo and suddenly move wealth around. Economic collapse is one of the principle contributors to instability and therefore the resultant conflict.
Uranus Taurus
Uranus in Taurus Starter
Uranus has already had a brief sojourn into Taurus during 2018, between May and October, and we had good cause to expect some shocking news about Taurus things. What about Trump's withdrawal from the nuclear deal with Iran?
The deal was basically this: Iran will not take Uranium out of the Earth if the West removes sanctions (which allows more financial security to Iran). Uranium, Earth, Financial security...all appropriate keywords.

There was also the start of the major trade war with China. USA may find itself unable to win such a war, and in the end major military wars are decided on who has won the trade wars and can command the most resources. (We remember the Boston Tea Party, a trade war at first that led to a real one, and the Opium wars between UK and China)
Uranus in Taurus Main Course
Uranus enters Taurus for keeps on 6 March 2019, and will be there until 2025; during this period we expect to see manifestations of Uranus acting through Taurus, so keywords such as 'discovery', 'rebellion', and 'reforms' which relate to Uranus will be combined with those related to Taurus - 'money', 'land', 'banks', 'matter', 'possession', 'ownership'.
Although we might like to see Uranus act rather dramatically immediately upon its ingress, it does not always do so. Also we cannot see how small things lead to big changes, so even if something major has already happened we may not think it important until history shows us.
Uranus in Taurus History
1934-1941
1) The worst year of the Great Depression
2) The 'Dust Bowl' economic catastrophe
3) F D Roosevelt's economic reforms - the 'New Deal'
4) To pay for arms, Britain's gold reserves were required to be deposited into America’s newly created Fort Knox - the wealth of the world's greatest empire transferred to another country almost overnight.
5) Manhattan Project brings in the Nuclear Age (splitting matter itself - what could be a more telling image for Uranus in Taurus!)
6) Long March of Mao and Night of Long Knives of Hitler bring dictators to power to mark the seeds of a great Game of Thrones which changed who owned the gold and possessed the land for generations to come.

How did the US end up owning half of the World's gold reserves by the end of WWII?
1851-1857
1) Abolitionists got going in the USA...leading to a war that divided a continent and moved vast wealth from South to North
2) There was a gold rush in Australia
3) Europe suffered widespread economic crises
4) Technological developments gave the ability to cross oceans and continents with railways and steamships, changing world trade completely and forever.
1684-1690
1) China opens ports to trade with West
2) British East India Trading Co opens trade with India and becomes the dominant economic world force until USA takes over
3) Newton's Principia published - foundation of modern science, great revolution of physics, without which space travel (overcoming gravity) would be unthinkable - and practically all else in technology that we take for granted now.
1599 - 1607
1) Queen Elizabeth 1 reign ends (Will that of Queen Elizabeth 2?)
2) Gunpowder Plot - Plot to blow up the government of the world's richest empire
3) Settling of Jamestown, Virginia (Nobody could imagine where that would take us)
Uranus Transits in Taurus
The pattern is very clear; it is one of big shifts occurring in the field of money and land in such a way as to redefine the relationships between power-possessors. The combination of fiery Uranus and solid-state Taurus is devastatingly powerful in a way that truly makes its mark in the history books.

What seems very clear from the historical evidence of previous periods of Uranus transiting through Taurus is that international trade is often subjected to large scale unexpected shifts. I am interested to look beneath the surface of this, triggered by Jena's comment that we re-look at values when Taurus is transited.

Taurus is a no-nonsense sign especially when it comes to defending its core values of security and freedom, which it sees as invested in things that bring security and whose absence brings a feeling of insecurity - money, land and possessions. By extension this means food to eat and solid ground beneath the feet. It also implies freedom from oppression since oppressors threaten these fundamental life needs.
Uranus in Taurus The Common Thread
A common thread emerges when we consider previous comments about Uranus in Taurus times, both contemporary and historical - whether volcanoes, fascism, trade wars or imperialist monopolies - that basic human rights are in danger of violation through the threat to fundamentals: food and freedom.

The Great Depression, which led to terrible poverty and mass starvation, set the stage for war – as indeed did the reparations after WW1 that led to depriving Germany of its all-important income from coal, and the deeply unsettling hyper-inflation that resulted from this, and therefore the readiness of a people to submit more easily to fascism rather than to poverty and shame. The triggers were economic – the Wall Street crash and the confiscation of the Ruhr coalfields were both expressions of greed and pride.

The long-suffering patient bull will put up with almost any unpleasantness, but try taking away its food supply or invading its secure domain! All we need is Uranus to shock it out of its complacent reverie and you have the recipe for violent eruption. The once-in-a-lifetime rage of an angry bull is to be avoided at all costs. We might well see blind rage against the 'System' acted out as the hungry and dispossessed lose control and revert to their herd instinct mentality. If so the only thing to do is to get out of the way and hide, as some people are currently learning in France this very week.

I associate the last round of Uranus in Taurus with the triumph of fascism, though of course its roots are earlier. One thinks of the rule of the strong man, but of course one needs a mindless, thoughtless herd for the strong man to arise. Perhaps one therefore needs to consider Taurus as the herd animal and the herd mentality (also present in Aries). Uranian lightning striking at the herd - the herd gets spooked and a drifting herd of grazers turns into a blind stampede into the unknown.

I find myself now considering Uranus in Gemini to follow and looking back at the last cycle. Just watched a lecture by AJP Taylor who was arguing that WWII as a truly global war only really began in 41 with the invasion of USSR, Pearl Harbour and America's finally entry. Of course that cycle ends with the the Cold War hardening into a frozen confrontation between two diametrically opposed systems. In the previous cycle the corresponding movement would be the US civil war and the more general cessation or curtailment of slavery in many parts of the globe, not least the abolition of serfdom in Russia. Alongside that we have the emergence of labour and socialist movements. In China over this whole period we have the utterly catastrophic Taiping rebellion which was a vast war between the Qing emperors and a guy who thought he was Jesus Christ's brother.

I'd be interested to know what the agreed astrological sign is for China.

Hi John, thanks for weighing in on this topic.

I had no idea about that civil war in China - it almost established a form of Christianity there!

As you say, there is certainly the sense of Uranus in Taurus and later moving into Gemini as land grabbing leading towards crystallization of polarities - and when political leaders claim religious authority we have a formula for a terrible outcome, from the Crusades, to George Bush, to Hong Xiuquan - and, it seems from the article you mention, Putin too.

Those islands in the South China Sea have been popping up in the news from time to time, and recently with China adding a more military dimension I wonder whether they might provoke the US to get nasty. Trump does seem to want to goad China, which is on the up and up nowadays, boosting its naval power with a new aircraft carrier and its economic clout with the Silk Road initiative.

The date of the People's Republic puts it as Libra - but I guess you are wanting to go back to an earlier time?

As a matter of feeling I get the Uranus Taurus association with fascism but I would be interested to learn what you feel is the explanation of that in astrological terms

Hello James,

Waking before the sun your question returned to bed with me and In drowsy reflective state my mind roved far and wide coming up with both questions and reflections.

Wondering how Uranus in Taurus, or any planetary transit, affects us not just individually, but also nationally and globally AND whether or not any of these can be seen in isolation?

Wondering also how Uranus in Taurus in the Age of Aquarius will be different from that transit in the Age of Pisces. Will it be different and what might we expect in this Great Age?

Also thinking beyond money and economies to that which we value and what might be shaken up here?

Reflecting on this short and temporary dance into Taurus there are 3 things which my inner self sees as manifestation of Uranus in Taurus – though you and other more astrologically educated may not agree.

First and posted almost at the same time as your blog – Visa chaos in Europe: electronic money not working – should we be buying gold bars?

Second the Volcanic eruptions in Hawaii and, if we are to believe it, the natal Uranus of Hawaii is at 0.52 Taurus – a spectacular Uranus return.

Here in New Zealand we are set to slaughter 150,000 cattle. They will literally be shocked to death.

thanks James the opportunioty to think outside the box

Hi Jena, thanks for your input.

I like to think that what astrologers do by studying planetary movements is more subtle than to read the causal power of the planet's emanations - it also shapes our intuitive abilities so that our perceptions become based more on hidden factors that others ignore or deny.

If we imagine a universal energy field that is in constant motion, in which all things exist, then our perception acts upon it to help co-create reality. Thus two things occur - firstly we pick up the flows of various tracks of vibration, for example the one with an 84 year cycle that we call Uranus, and secondly, we place our ideas about that upon the universal field with varying degrees of influence depending upon the clarity and passion we bring to this act of perception. This is both universal and personal so indeed must influence us individually and also nationally and globally, and of course differently in the Age of Aquarius (which one imagines will be generally more subject to Uranus's influences because of its rulership).

Incidentally there are as many different suggested dates for when this Great Age begins as there are commentators. I think the 60s for three reasons - 1) The Electronic Age began with the widespread use of microchip technology; 2) We saw ourselves in an iconic photograph from space as a fragile blue planet floating about in a vacuum; and 3) It was announced as such in a very popular song.

Our values do shift don't they! I don't suppose the deepest ones will change much over a 7 year period, but who knows? Last time, 84 years ago, the Jewish people had theirs hit for six.

Your examples seem totally apt to me. I got the volcano one of course but didn't know Hawaii was Taurus. There certainly is something very strange going on with money already: 7000 years of metal money, then paper, then electronic in a flash - and now even Bitcoin fantasy money. Maybe Uranus will do something else soon - some would fear the Revelations-predicted mark of the beast. (Implants). But do tell me why you see the slaughter of cattle as unusually noteworthy?

Guatemala - another volcano; its moon is in Taurus.

Where did you get the Hawaii Taurus connection Jena?

Well James - I was surfing countries and their planetry rulership (not that i really believe in it AND the results were very racist with half the countries of the world not even listed!) Then from there I found a natal chart for Hawaii (again not really commited to this as WHO says when a country is born?) However it was illuminating (and supportive of my ideas - duh) to find the natal Uranus at 0.52 Taurus. Now I cant find that page nor chart.

I'm not only experiencing Uranus on my Mars, Sun, Venus stellium, but also Neptune on my 15Pisces moon. Why would anyone believe anything I say?

James Burgess

It's always a challenge to establish birth data whether for a person or a state, and there has been much written in discussion about exactly when a country is to be considered incorporated for the very first moment.

Hello James, how that will catch my personal life? For what I have to concentrate?

Hi Nijole!

On a personal level, we may expect people strong in Taurus to be more sensitive to what is happening during this Uranus transit. This is partly because it will cross certain planets that trigger certain sudden changes in what happens and what we feel and think. In your case that will not occur for a few more years.

Yet because of the principle of resonance, we Taurus-types will be likely to feel its approach much earlier. Taurus itself is a field of vibration, and it is currently being electrified. Anyone with a planet in Taurus may be able to feel that electrical force and become uncharacteristically restless, energized, rebellious and curious. Perhaps you will find the speed of life's changes increases and you will feel 'hurried along'. Taurus typically does not like to be hurried along and becomes stubborn about that!

What to do to prepare? Who can really say! Expect the unexpected...

Interestingly, the 4 participants in this conversation are all Taurus.

HaHa am amused by our self obsession!

And the cows - its a big thing here in NZ (not quite as bad as the Foot and Mouth in Britain but up there) and I'm taking it quite literally (yes I know you'll think me naive) Cows = Taurus and Electric Shock = Uranus .

Hi Christina,

Excellent suggestion!

The Exhibition was most certainly Uranus-like in that its main function was showing new things in technology and the realm of ideas (- although it was not first of its kind having been preceded in France). It also had a strong flavour of Taurus, in that England wanted to show off its wealth and power to the world...and there was inside it a whole big living tree.

Uranus went into Taurus only a couple of weeks before its opening and was in Taurus for the whole affair.

Although, interestingly, it was the first international exhibition, and then other international followed. Reminds me of an art gallery (taurus) of technology (uranus). No doubt there was some other influences, like gemini and sagitarius, since it was both temporary and global. Such a fascinating topic...

My north node and MC are in Taurus. My husband is a Taurus at 1 degrees. And my daughter has Taurus rising at 0 degrees and Mars in Taurus at 9 degrees. (And her part of fortune, although I don't hear much about that glyph, usually.) So am I paying attention, heck yes. And hoping for some constructive change. Thinking of it like how to ride a bucking bronco. ;)

I suspect your daughter and husband will be up to something a little unexpected and even strange! If ever there was a time to let them do their own thing, then this is it!

Encourage them to do it together perhaps - skydiving, all-night party, 24 hour gaming session?

Interesting, as well. I could probably talk about this topic all day. But as a moon exactly conjunct uranus, I may be here to represent for the other team, lol. Another topic that has not come up much here related to Uranus in Taurus is feminine (taurus) awakening (uranus). Hopefully a rising tide of feminine wisdom can start to create momentum away from fighting over economics in favor of waking us all up to a more peaceful, enjoyable and value-infused era. Looking forward to future posts!

Let's hope for that!

I was married to a Moon Uranus conjunction woman for 7 years and we never had a home or settled into any rhythm, a constantly changing adventure of uncertainty. I like Uranus; mine feels strong, having it angular on my Descendant, and I will remember the feeling as it crossed over my MC for a lifetime...I had unlimited energy and uncanny intuition for three years!

11am this morning (NZ time) I went into the kitchen to find water everywhere - the washing machine had flooded! Simultaneously the phone rang: it was my bridge partner telling me that husband hadn't recovered from a fall he had 2 days ago and she would have to pull out of the regional trials happening this weekend. This might not sound too big, but a flood when you're preparing to go away for 10 weeks feels like a disaster. And the bridge trials were our opportunity to represent the region, as we did last year, and the departure date for my Europe trip was planned just after so that it was possible. Why is this relevant? Sun 3.23 Taurus and where was Uranus at 11am? And of course, its not just the moment or even the day, my last few weeks have been peppered with changes and cancellations - all by other people - of course!!

Hi Jena, my sympathies and congratulations!

To be so tuned in to Uranus is very unusual, although a tad uncomfortable and inconvenient. Still, you are being shown that something needs to change. It could be just for one day - perhaps you have unknowingly avoided a deadly car crash? Or you might need to change bridge partners or something bigger.
But no door can close without another opening, so no doubt you will be on the look pout for a sudden new opportunity, a new and exciting door. Keep us posted!
love James.
