About the Elven Star

The Elven Star invokes a specific quality, which we associate with number 7, elves, faeries, unicorns and such mysterious, mythological beings. Although it is a non-physical reality, nonetheless this energy is very influential. Imagination is the mother and father of all things, and we learn how to employ our own imagination to create wholesome, synergistic outcomes when we engage with the magick of this realm, the mystical realm of 7.

Mystique is a highly-charged form of glamour which resonates an aspect of the psyche – the aspect where imagination is stimulated. It has long been the major factor in building the collective sense of the nature of reality of any group, whether tribe, nation or religion. Whereas in ancient days, the mystique of telling stories around a flickering campfire was used both to educate and condition people, today's propaganda machine uses different methods such as newspapers, television and social media.

We can heal the mind of this corruption by reconnecting with number 7. This is our purpose in studying the Elven Star – to reawaken that aspect of mind that resonates wholesomely with mystery and magick. When we do this, we will notice that synchronicity appears in our lives with greater frequency and more impact. Also, associating with other people who are also awakening accelerates this process and stimulates exponential effects whereby magick reasserts itself on Earth.

At first, we learn what each point of the Elven Star symbolises, and eventually we come to develop the ability to grasp all 7 aspects of its wisdom simultaneously. This is called Elven Consciousness and is a rare attainment that equates to realisation. There are degrees of realisation. At its zenith, full realisation is enlightenment – God-consciousness; yet we can reasonably expect to attain to the first level of realisation, which is seeing the real rather than the illusion.

The 7 points of the Elven Star can be studied in various ways. They can be equated to the 7 Planes of Consciousness in Sufism, the 7 primary words in the 7 Words System, 7 chakras and so forth. We can anchor our state of being with each point using power animals and other totems; we can study the septiles for each planet and point in our horoscope and become familiar with the various different feelings generated when we do this, especially when this is done collaboratively with another person. Astrodrama is very useful for this.

The process is neither quick nor easy. This is an advanced technique in magick, only suitable for committed spiritual aspirants with the will to purify the ego enough to attain soul-level awareness.

The number 7 has been associated for a very long time with mystery and magick, and its star is formed by angles of 51:26 degrees. It is the first very strange number - the others (1 - 6) being easily seen in Nature. It links best with Neptune's meaning and its own meaning can be grasped better when intuition is very strong and trusted.

Using this Elven Star method, studying the 7th harmonics of the Sun's exact degree, we blend the resonance of essence-self (The Sun), with its higher reaches of consciousness (Neptune) and express this level of realisation in very pragmatic terms using the 7 Words System.

It is a practice of magick and suitable for the more advanced students of Sabian Mysteries. So please approach this work with mindfulness and clear intent; take it seriously - there are real dangers involved for the casual or uncaring practitioner.

Sylvia's Question about the Relationship with Sufism and 7 Words
This is very interesting. I’m curious how you get the corresponding symbols with each point of the Star? What is the logic behind that? And also, how do you read the completed star - I got the 7 symbols and they are quite diverse . I’m getting the general meaning of each symbol , now I’m wondering if there’s a way to see them in combination that I may be not aware of . Thanks for doing all this interesting work, I really enjoy it!

The allocation of a particular point of the star to a particular one of the 7 Words is of importance in describing either a polygon (in which the points are sequential around the zodiac circle) or a star (in which case the points are traced traditionally in the way the star is drawn without removing the pencil). The polygon seems better able to describe one's life journey, whereas the star seems to awaken a deeper sense of soul-self.

What is primary is that we are able to divide the whole into 7 equal aspects, rather like the rainbow. Although there are many ways to section Oneness into parts, the exact way in which we might do that changes how we will experience the resultant diversity. Although red, yellow and blue are simple, and nothing more mystical than wavelengths perceived by the eyes, the rainbow somehow touches our feelings very deeply. I believe that this shows us what the vibrational frequency of 7 feels like.

When we study the number 7, we tune into this frequency and develop greater sensitivity to 7-ness...whatever that mystery is. So by applying this idea to our Sun sign (the essence of who we are) we begin to see what was not recognised before - the rainbow vibration within - a Neptunian, mystical, ill-defined sense of something wonderful and yet intangible...a dream, a vision. This may well have a counterpart on the other side of the 'veil', and perhaps that is what sometimes is described as the Muse, or a spirit guide (or perhaps faery beings like elves!)

The 7 Words System begins with the Sufi approach to the question of non-material worlds, called the 7 Planes of Consciousness, and interprets these ancient mysteries in the simplest of terms - No, Hello, Thanks, Goodbye, Please, Sorry, and Yes - each of which can best be seen as a label of an archetype, and the name of an attitude of being.

The association of each of the 7 Words with the 7 points of the star and also with a particular Sabian Symbol is made by applying the first Sabian to the Sun sign and the rest to those at intervals of 51:26 degrees...thus giving us the full '7th harmonic', rather like a strange chord on a piano or guitar...yet not colours like the rainbow, nor sounds like the chords, but in this case as psychological attitudes, feelings and behaviours. There is other evidence that the originators, Wheeler, Jones and Rudhyar, would agree with this principle of harmonic resonance.

There is certainly a way to see them in combination - and with this you have put your finger exactly on the point. Most people will find that task difficult or impossible at first. Yet the way to open up the inner capability to grasp the mystery of 7, and thus get the 7-ness principle as a feeling or realisation, is by assuming that you will find an answer if you look for one, with faith in the outcome, and patient determination. This really is an advanced study! It has taken me a lifetime to get to it.

The way to approach the exercise is to use both sharp acuity of attention, and gentle, dreamy, abstract, casual interest. Allow the Mystery to come to you in its own way - but never let It forget that you are still interested to know the answer and completely unwilling to accept defeat. It's worth it. The mystery of 7 is what makes life delightful, joyful and sparkling with faeries!

Thanks for that in depth explanation, it makes perfect sense to me. I like the rainbow/ musical octave image, as I both work as a portrait artist and I love to sing. I can absolutely relate to the concept of a “ strange chord” and see it in color too, as emotional tone of each of the “ notes” in the Star. Each of the 7 words carries an emotional tone and resonates with others. I can see how the whole star is like a personal song and it can give us a better idea of how to express each of the 7 tones better and show us which ones we need to tune better. I really like the idea of the Star being like a muse , too. To me my muse is exactly that intangible entity that contains all of the best potential I am called to develop in this plane , and she knows my “perfect song”- I just have to be always open to her signs and quiet my thoughts so I can hear her sing. That’s why I got interested in the symbols and your work- it’s her guidance that brings me here. Thanks again!
