1.1 Emergence
Emergence is a process whereby what was previously concealed is revealed. Suddenly, or slowly unfolding, something comes into our awareness that was previously unconscious or non-existent and, if embraced, will be the seed of future developments. To become anything of consequence an idea in seed form must be germinated by adoption and further processes of attention. From the very beginning the challenge to exist, and continue to exist, is fundamental. The foundation of any living thing – an idea or a baby – is its ability to survive the ‘slings and arrows of outrageous fortune’ whether by winning existential requirements such as needing food and attention, or simply enduring rejection and ridicule from others. Background circumstances act as a chalice or matrix to both contain and shape the emergent life of a being or idea. Although its essence-nature remains, a baby grows to become an American-type, or a Mexican-type, of person according to the context of its early nurture. So too with an idea or initiative. What is nurtured will blossom, what is not will likely die off. Growing into all we could be demands of us a balance of polarised energies – yin and yang are the main ones to consider. Sometimes we must thrust, sometimes we flow, and always we seek to reconcile opposing forces of change. When we find such dynamic balance, we know happiness, ease of being and ease of doing. Maturation brings experience, knowledge and awareness, opening up new horizons of possibility and opportunity. What was previously hidden is revealed and we ponder upon the Beyond, we rise in spiritual attainment towards a higher level of self-expression and self-realisation. |
