Ascendant
Outer layer of self; overriding, unconscious face of personality. Interaction with our social environment and casual associates. Its ruling planet has power to project an image and shape our worldview.

The general text for the sign applies as much for the Ascendant as for the Sun sign, although its expression is sooner and less passionately owned - it is more expediency than principle.

Descendant ​(always in the opposite sign)
One-to-one committed exchanges with long term lovers, business partners, individual enemies or opponents. Exteriorisation of the denied shadow self – which we ourselves try to ignore yet our partners see clearly.

We probably don't think of ourselves as very much like the Descendant - but look again! The general text for the sign applies although its expression is hidden and seldom owned - it is more to do with shadow than light.
