Pisces 9 (8°- 9°)SPUR TO ATTAINMENT
It takes drive, energy, skill and determination to succeed "Be determined to succeed" One aspect of life is the urgency and drive to success that a jockey demonstrates. At times we must pull out all the stops and focus every ounce of energy in a determined way to achieve our goals at all costs. Without such an occasional, intense spurring-to-action we would slowly lose vitality and purpose.

To establish ourselves takes application and commitment
Jockeys train hard and keep to a rigorous dietary discipline in order to maintain a peak of fitness for their work. Any top practitioner does – musicians, sportswomen, singers and so on. Practice is what keeps us in form. Each of us potentially has a spectacular gift for rising to the occasion. It takes will to do the necessary preparatory work, and this comes from motivation. Often this drive is found because we simply want to celebrate and enjoy our talents to their fullest capacity. Rather than misusing our resources and potentiality – for example by witless gambling on horse racing, trying to get something for nothing – we can choose to apply ourselves fully towards something that will bring the important feeling of self-fulfilment. There are inevitably disappointments, and even penalties, for any failure to push the capabilities of self to the limit, since insolvency of achievement is seen by our community as quite an unattractive quality. We find that actually it is only through thoroughly consistent performance of skills that we establish respect among our fellows and feel the reassurance of being worth our position. As our abilities develop towards excellence, we are increasingly called upon to exhibit them successfully. So the more we practise, the more we need to practise. Thus it is seen that achievement is not an event – it is a lifestyle – and usually this demands that we allocate time and funds to support our clear intention to reach a goal. This image of a jockey speaks to us of the concern we must have for the exertions and challenges of everyday experience. Real, sustained effort is unavoidable if we want to enjoy success on any level – the background entropy of existence demands that constantly we work to improve ourselves or else we will certainly degenerate. In any true revelation of ourselves, our eagerness must show through. We demonstrate our commitment to a full and satisfying life through some activity, which we take to the fullest degree of completion and expression only as we strive and struggle. |
